Eclectic: selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or style.  Mixing styles in design is something you see more and more in design these days.  As design evolves certain pieces stick around because they are “good” design.   Go ahead mix new and old  but do so with thought. Keep a pattern and color consistent to pull a cohesive look together.
