summer getaway 7.30

July 30, 2010

We are headed back to New York this weekend and out to Shelter Island at the eastern end of Long Island. This home is far from your traditional beach house but I thought it interiors were so beautiful.  Showcasing the owners art work, artifacts and stunning antiques.  This is truly a chic beach house.

Lovely little porch to gaze out at the pool

The coffee table alone is enough to make me swoon

The pop of yellow is a perfect accent in this room

The graphic striped wall is a great contrast to the white floors and antique rug. But I must say I love the playful cowhide chairs

Master Bedroom: simple and serene

This vanity is one of my favorite styles, something you can get away with at a second home as you don't need all the storage

The mask collection in the guest room is a perfect place to display with some real impact

I got bitten by the bug yesterday. Yes the fall fashion bug. It’s 90 degrees outside and the thought of putting a sweater is just awful but then you hit the mall and they have the ac cranked to about 40 degrees so then a sweater doesn’t look so bad. And in Banana Republic they have the sweetest little ruffled cardi in a handful of colors but I was loving the navy, pale blue, grey and cream tones they were working.  Suddenly I am ready for a little crisp weather so I could throw on a cute cardigan without breaking a sweat. Here’s a pic of the sweater  and how it could translate into a beautiful early fall fashion inspired room. Enjoy!

before and after

This little white  house in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood, got a major overhaul to show off its potential as the Idea House from Midwest Living 2009. This architecture is so similar to ones all ove over the county and the layout is one we have all seen before.  Check out the link if you are considering a remodel it has great tips and ideas.

Just Charming. All the original character is there but restored.

It's all about the open floor plan

This kitchen has all the required amenities plus it feels open and airy not stuffed into the house

This is a great example of using wallpaper in the powder room. It's fun and the color ties in with the rest of the house

I love this home office it's so rich with all the dark wood. It's not huge but it is totally functional and has a ton of storage

More of that dark cabinet it echoed in the master bath but they keep it light with the white counters

Love the rich red paired with the light furniture in the basement. The red keeps it warm and less dungeon like

This looks like the perfect city yard to me

Oh! I’m in total envy of this mother daughter team out of Birmingham Caldwell Flake interior design. So gorgeous!  Check out their design philosophy here very poetic.  I love their use of a punch of color in a neutral environment just lovely.
