orange velvet

September 30, 2010

I found this dreamy orange velvet at Denver fabrics yesterday that I need to use somewhere.  It’s rich, it’s colorful and it’s perfect for fall.  A great punch of color for a room but only in the right application. A giant orange velvet sofa might send the wrong message. Ha! For some reason it make me think of George Costanza’s racy photo shoot.  Here a few more classy applications of an orange velvet.

This is what I’m talking about a great chair with some exposed wood.

before and after

September 29, 2010

This bland and boring foyer gets a makeover. The subtle toneon tone in the this foyer are actually making it more busy without any real definition.  And the carpet seems a bit worn ready for a redo. And there is not layering of color or texture.

Simple addition of some definition to the upper part of the wainscoting makes all the difference. The warm orange color transforms the room and keeping the base a light white keeps the eye moving up and making the room feel taller. The more modern stripe rugs looks like it would really disguise some dirt and the roman shade softens the window while adding some pattern to the room.

tuesday’s find

September 28, 2010

I apologize for those of you in the know but I wanted to make sure everyone knew about the two best home furnishing/accessory online clearance spots. One Kings Lane and Eziba. Both are member based online shops that feature items for a 72 hour sale and offering deep discounts for that time period. But don’t wait because if you miss it you are out of luck.  The membership is free and you get credit for inviting friends or if they buy something.

One Kings Lane has been around a bit longer and has really exploded in the past few months. Offering Saturday Tastemakers Tag Sales of designers one of a kind items and the recent addition of The Pantry which features gourmet food items. Make sure your check out the OKL Must Haves in addition to the daily sales. I have ordered a few things and have been nothing but impressed.

A custom Linen Velvet Lounge chair from the Tastemakers Tag Sale

Set of Frette sheets from the OKL must haves

A white wine cheese collection from the Pantry

Eziba new on the scene has been launched by Overstock.  Not quite the array of goodies that is offered on OKL but great items too. I recently ordered a painting for $125 and you might think you get what you pay for but  was really quite impressed. It came quick too for the Overstock famous $2.95 shipping.

piano man

Billy Joel’s purty home in Sagaponack Village, New York is on the market for 19.9 million.  Yikes!  But this white washed and cedar shingled beauty is full of New England charm.  I could totally get into this place. gourmet kitchen, stunning baths and 145 feet of beach frontage.

Looks like your own personal beach to me!

Love the vaulted ceilings and the design on the floor
